BILL OVER SEXUAL HARASSMENT

The Mothers and Marginalised Advocacy Centre has appealed to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to assent to and full implementation of Sexual Harassment Bill to protect women and girls across the country.

The Executive Director, MAMA, Ola Onyegbula, on Friday called for stiffer punishments against perpetrators of rape against women and girls across the nation.

She stated that perpetrators of violence against women and girls shouldn’t be allowed to go unpunished, saying punishment will serve as a deterrent to others.

She, however, advocated for the immediate assent of the Sexual Harassment Bill to secure the health, emotional and physical well-being of women and girls across the country.

She said the adaptation and full implementation of Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act across the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, saying, “We call for the immediate assent of the Sexual Harassment Bill as a demonstration of sincere commitment to secure health, emotional and physical well-being of women and girls in the country.”
