DSS operative killed my son at birthday party, says father of slain cop

Father of Rauf, Mr Rabiu Fawale, a police corporal, who died after alleged attack by three men of the Department of State Services in Osogbo on January 14, has said his son was invited to where he was attacked by another policeman called Modi.

The late policeman, attached to Estate Police Station, Osogbo, was said to be at a bar in the Oke Fia area of the state capital to celebrate Modi’s  birthday before fight broke out between him and the DSS men.

Father of the deceased in a chat said, “I was told one Modi invited my son to the bar where he was attacked.

“We were also told that the said Modi is a senior to Rauf at their station in Osogbo. We hope to visit the station to see the said officer. We have gove to the palace of Olobu of Olobu on the issue.”

A source, who claimed to be regular patron of the bar, also said the late policeman was attacked during a fight that broke out at the party.

He could not, however, say what led to fight during which the Rauf was injured.

“The DSS men were not strangers to the bar. The late policeman, we learnt was invited by one of his seniors, Modi, for birthday celebration.

“I don’t know the cause of the fight but there was clash and the policeman was hit on the head,” the source said.

When asked about the progress of police investigation, the spokesperson for  the state command, Yemisi Opalola, said, “No new development yet.”
