EDUCATION, A PACE SETTING FACTOR, IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT~ SAYS ENUGU REP

The Deputy Minority leader, house of representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu has reiterated the pertinence and importance of Education. Education, according to him, is one thing, that can not be taken from one.

This he made known to the delegation of Awgu local government area students association that visited him in his Enugu residence.

The ALGASA delegates had made this courtesy visit in a bid to appreciate the lawmaker for paying so much interest in educational wellbeing of his constituents.

Barr, Okechukwu is very staunch with the notion that every child should have access to basic education, since he believes that Education is one of the major keys to national development.

Rt. Hon Okechukwu, has a very strong Educational background for his position, He has a BA in English and literary studies from the University of Calabar, a PGD and an MBA, an LL.B from University of Lagos, and Currently making other Educational Pursuits.

The event started with a speech from one of the delegates, Comr. Okafor Joseph, whom appreciated Barr. Okechukwu for his resource investment in Education.

He further enumerated the educational projects by Rt. Hon. Toby, which included, Construction and adequate equipment of school buildings, scholarship and bursary schemes, teachers training project, SSCE registeration for most of the terminal students in his constituency, amongst other feats in the educational sector.

Since it was an event filled with interactions between the host and his guests, another delegate, Comr. Obinna Okpara took the stage to list the major aims and objective of the association, he also explained most of their achievement, which were, Campaign against Suicide, sexual brutality and rape, including sensitization of youths about drug abuse.

In conclusion to their speech session, the president of the group, Comr. Obinta Juliet, appreciated the patience and the attentiveness of their host. In that manner, she presented further requests of the group, hoping they will be met by the eminent leader.

Thier requests were thus:

  • -Accomodation of the members of the association in the Bursary and Scholarship scheme, including the youth empowerment programs.-
  • -Sponsors to their envisaged Skill acquisitions program, such as Graphics and Web design, Cinematography and Bakery.

-Sponsor to their annual home coming event.

Subsequently, Barr. Okechukwu thanked these ones for identifying with him. He further appreciated their visit.

It was in his speech, that he admonished them to continually invest seriously and immensely in their education, since it was literally the only thing, that one can not be stripped of.

He further, explained that himself, the President of the federation and every man of major prominence, has gone through rigorous education, as such one should handle it diligently.

Education majorly differentiates a Fulani man in the bush, fending for cattle and the one that sits in Aso Rock, he said.

Again, he commended their initiative of uniting the Awgu students and empowering themselves through their proposed skill acquisition program.

Furthermore, he promised to be of great support to the upcoming home coming event and the envisaged skill acquisitions program.

However, he is to include their members as beneficiaries of the Scholarship, Bursary and empowerement schemes.

The event ended on a very good note, as the student Body left in elated spirits.The delegation was made up of:
