A former deputy president of the Senate, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and the Deputy Minority leader, House of representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu has expressed their grief over the demise of the traditional ruler of Ohofia Ndumeze Kingdom, Oduma in Aninri local government area of Enugu state, HRH Igwe Onyioha Nwanjoku, (Ndumeze 1 of Ndumeze kingdom)

The Duo lamented his death amid their respective visits to deceased’s Family at his Enugu residence. While Ekweremadu paid a condolence Visit on Monday, Okechukwu did on Wednesday.

Late Igwe Onyioha Nwanjoku was born into regality on 15th January, 1940 at Ezinato Ohofia Ndumeze Oduma, Aninri local government area of Enugu state.

He obtained his First school leaving Certificate in 1956, a teaching certificate at the preliminary teachers training college, Ihe in 1957. He gained a GCE in 1974, an A-level through rapid result college London in 1978. He attained a doctor of Philosophy in Public administration/humanity at the Institute of Journalism in collaboration with the Christian Science University of California USA.

Ndumeze 1, as he was fondly called was a primary school teacher in his days. He served as councilor, Oduma Community council(1975-1977).

He became the pioneer Chairman,  Aninri local government council, sitting from 1982- 1983.

Igwe Onyioha was an astute politician as he Chaired various political parties at the local government level in 1995, after which he became the Chairman People’s Democratic party, Enugu state Chapter from 2000 to 2009, making him Member, National executive committee (NEC) of PDP.

He also headed the board of trustees Federal Medical center Umuahia from 2005 to 2007.

Traditionally, the late Igwe was an icon as he bagged several Chieftaincy and traditional titles.

He reigned as King over Ndumeze kingdom of Oduma Aninri. He was crowned Ndumeze 1 of Ndumeze kingdom in 2010 and he reigned Sovereign until he bowed to the inevitable call.

He served in the capacity of the Chairman Aninri local government traditional rulers council from 2012 till his death, belonging to the Enugu state council of traditional rulers(house of chiefs).

Though he led an accomplished and fulfilling life, he took a bow in response to his creator’s call.

Ekweremadu and Okechukwu were received by Chief Okezie Nwanjoku ( Ugwumba) who narrated the Late Igwe’s last moments.  He said that his father left a very big shoe for him behind.

Speaking in the presence of his siblings he said  further that the members of the family have taken what happened in good faith since it is the will of God.

He informed them of the activities for his late father’s last offala which will come up soon will be adequately communicated to him accordingly.

In his Condolence speech, Rt Hon Toby Okechukwu who came with a large entourage consoled the family for what happened and said that Late Igwe Onyioha Nwanjoku was a family friend to his immediate family as he had lived in his place and was very close to his Late Father who was a teacher then.

He also said that Late Igwe Onyioha Nwanjoku was a very strong and visible PDP Leader before he was called to serve his people as a Traditional ruler.

He described him as a very flamboyant and Charismatic Traditional ruler who had lots of Wisdom in all affairs.

He charged the Children to emulate him and follow jealously his good footsteps.

He further advised the family members to stay together and strong especially in this moment of grief.

He said he will participate fully in the programs leading to the Igwe’s  final offala.

Also speaking Hon Johnson Chukwuobasi sympathized with the family and said he was deeply saddened by Igwes death and pray that God will give the family the fortitude to bear the huge loss.

Ekweremadu also eulogised the late King, referring to him as an impeccable leader with all manner of kingly and regal qualities. He the adviced his children to imbibe his Legacy. “Keep blazing the trail”, he said to them.

He also encouraged them to be strong especially during this trying times, praying that the good God grants them fortitude to bear the loss and wisdom to forge right on ahead.

They were accompanied to the Condolence visit by Hon Johnson Chukwuobasi, Member Rep Awgu South Consituency ENHA, Dr Godwin Udeuhele, Barr Eze O Eze, Dr Augustine Okoli, Chief Egwuonwu Obasi, Mr PC Chukwu, Hon Tochukwu Chukwu, Mr Chidi Orjiadachie, Hon Chinwuba Okeke, Hon Ani Isreal,  Mr Austin Umejiaku, Mr Onyeka Chukwuedo, Hon Okwu Emmanuel, Hon Okey Samuel amongst others.
