Hon. Nnoli Nnaji, the Chairman, House Committee on Aviation, has expressed his utmost appreciation to the South-Eastern Governors, for their combined efforts in making sure that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, meets the global standard.
Nnaji spoke to UGAMATV in an audio interview,
on the 16th of June, 2020, during an inspection visit to the Airport, where he stressed on the effect of
the rainy season with
regards to the timely delivery of the project, in his words:
“You do not asphalt during
the rainy season, you have to be extremely careful when asphalting, so as to produce the best results, asphalt can only be applied when the weather is okay and withdrawn when it becomes bad.”, he said this to explain the lack of correlation in the estimated
time of delivery by the contractors.
Still speaking in the interview session, Rt. Hon. Nnoli stated that he takes solace in the fact that the work is ongoing in the airport, for which, he appreciates the South-Eastern Governors for ensuring that the objective of this entire project is hugely successful.
He also, extended his
Appreciation, to the
President for signing the release of funds used in the construction, the ministry for signing and supervising the contract, he then, praised and Encouraged the Enugu State Governor for His concerns towards this particular project, as he regularly delegates the commissioner for works to the site.
He also thanked the house of Representatives and by extension, the members of the House Committee on Aviation, for the constant support and oversight function carried out in this particular airport and
other projects in other parts of the country.
He however, categorically stated that this airport is of high necessity and
importance to the people of
South-East and beyond, as such everyone is eagerly
awaiting the reopening of the airport.
He finally highlighted the need for a qualitative work
over a rushed work, hence he advised that the
contractors should endeavor
to put in their best resources
to give an optimal result in
the nearest future.
