Reactions has continued to arise following the ongoing construction of bustops around Enugu city metropolis to replace the old ones which was vandalised by hoodlums during the EndSars protest .
It can be recalled the the state government of Enugu state through the Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency (ECTDA) commenced the construction of over 241 bustop shelter in Enugu late last year.
The construction of a bricks Bustop shelters ideas was first conceived after the existing ones was damaged by youths in Enugu who joined there counterparts nationwide to protest during the Endsars campaign was for it to be too attractive to behold for any kind of hoodlums to destroy
The bustop which is described by most residents as a capital intensive and a misplaced priority project that should be directed into creating of jobs to put food on peoples table is designated in different places where buses stop for passengers to get on and off the bus
Meanwhile a cross section of Enugu residents in an interview continued to fear the that the bustop after completion, will become refuge for beggars and mentally unstable persons in the state.
They argued that even the old bus stops were not habitable for commuters due to its complete repossession by beggars and mentally unstable people in the city. They didn’t see the sense in building these ‘mansions’ that won’t be maintained or used for it’s purpose.
They complained about pot holes littering the city that require immediate intervention but are being ignored to build very unnecessary structures as bus stops.

“it is an white elephant project I most say, the old ones before it was damaged was mostly inhabited by mentally challenged people, and also use for placing campaign poster”Benjamin mmadu
“Why not focus on roads? see pot holes littering the city that require immediate intervention but are being ignored to build very unnecessary structures as bus stops
“At the end, the aim of building this bustop for commuters will be defeated due to its complete repossession by beggars and mentally unstable people in the city, used for campaign posters. I didn’t see the sense in building these ‘mansions’ that won’t be maintained or used for it’s purpose” mrs joy Ekah stated
“The bustop is capital intensive and a misplaced priority project that should be directed into creating of jobs to put food on peoples table ” oga Joseph said.
While some were against the ideas, some took the opportunity to advice youths who go about destroying the structures been made available by the Government for their use for the the sake of protest to disease from such notions and action ,
Stating that violence can never be use to achieve anything good.
“It takes years to build but takes few minutes to be destroyed , violence would never help but lead to death.
“Whatever you are destroying, in one way or the other benefits you, your family and loved ones. Then why destroying it in the name of hiting hard the government ?
“There are better ways to protest and show your grievances to the government not by destroying your own properties .
“Money that could be used for some other project will in turn be used for replacing what has been destroyed whereby creating another mean to siphon scarce fund” Mr Ralph okoye said
“I believe the idea of a bricks bustop will also enhance the beauty of the state and also be used for it main purpose of construction”Ngozi Achuba stated
Some also said that it is necessary for the state government to constitute a committee that will be supervising this bustops inorder for miscreants and mad persons not to litter it and make it irritating and uncondulsive for commuters to use
