Imo Assembly removes Speaker behind closed doors, elects replacement

The Imo House of Assembly on Monday impeached the Speaker, Mr Paul Emeziem, of the All Progressive Congress.

Although, details of the impeachment process were sketchy, our correspondent gathered that Emeziem’s removal followed a resolution signed by 19 out of the 27 members of the house.

Another APC lawmaker, Mr Kennedy Ibeh, was subsequently elected as the new Speaker of the House.

It was further gathered that the members, who conducted the special plenary behind closed door, hurriedly left the Assembly premises immediately after the impeachment.

Recall that Emeziem had last week announced the impeachment of Mr Amarachi Iwanyanwu as the Deputy Speaker of the House.
