The Peoples Democratic Party in Kaduna State has been engulfed in crisis.

This has led to the suspension of seven of the party’s chieftains in the state.

Those suspended by the party are a former senator, Suleiman Hunkuyi, who represented the Northern Kaduna Senatorial District in the eighth Senate.

Hunkuyi was also a governorship aspirant of the party in the 2019 governorship election in the state.

Other members suspended include Hashim Garba, Kubau Local Government; Dr Mato Dogara, Lere Local Government; Ibrahim Lazuru, Lere Local Government; Dr John Danfulani, Kachia Local Government; Lawal Adamu, Soba Local Government as well as Ubale Salmanduna, Zaria Local Government.

According to the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Abraham Catoh, Hunkuyi and others were suspended for their anti-party activities.

Catoh in a statement in Kaduna on Saturday evening said the suspension order was handed down by the state Working Committee of the party in line with the party’s constitution as provided in Section 57(3) 2017, as amended.

He also said the suspended party chieftains were expected to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee on a date and time to be announced by the committee.

The state party spokesman said, “The State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kaduna State, met today, Saturday,  May 16, 2020, after preliminary hearing on  party discipline and resolved to suspend the following for anti-party activities in line with the provision of the party constitution as provided in Section 57(3) 2017, as amended.

“That the said members stand suspended from the party from today, May 16, 2020 and will be expected to appear before the disciplinary committee on a date and time to be announced by the committee.

“The SWC further resolved that Col. Dauda Albehu Gora, is not a registered member of the PDP and therefore, he is an impersonator.

“The party has submitted his name to all security agencies to take note of his activities. We shall take necessary action against him should he continue with his activities against the PDP.”

Reacting to the suspension, Danjuma Bello Sarki, a former Deputy Director General, PDP Campaign Committee, Kaduna, for the 2019 general election, urged party members to put their house together ahead of 2023 elections.

Sarki stressed the need for absolute loyalty from party members to root out the All Progressives Congress-led government in 2023.

Meanwhile, the PDP in Plateau State has suspended one of its leaders Nandom Penap.

It was learnt that the former council chairman for Langtang North was suspended alongside seven others for forming a parallel state  executive.

A statement on Saturday  by the Head of Media, State Caretaker Committee of the party, John Akans,  said, “The working committee arm of the  Plateau State caretaker committee at its emergency meeting  this evening (Friday)  held at the state  secretariat to review the  unfortunate incident  at  the secretariat, where some groups of rascals mischievously constituted themselves into a caretaker committee which is  an affront on national leadership of our  party under the leadership of Prince Uche Secondus.

“The state leadership of the party  frowns on  these  dissidents  and therefore approved their immediate suspension from the party with immediate effect.

“The attempt by this groups of rascals is not only laughable and  mischievous but infantile and  an act of lawlessness to the extreme which the party cannot condone.

“Consequently, a  seven- man disciplinary committee has been constituted to look into the activities of these persons.”

The statement listed the names of others affected by the suspension as  Godwin Bedir,Akims Mamot, Mrs Asabe Dareng,Nathaniel Dakas, Jecob Dashe and Kabiru Musa.
