Miyetti Allah, others berate Ortom for calling Bauchi gov terror member

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Bauchi State, has accused the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, of being the author of crises affecting Fulani people in the country.

The state Chairman of MACBAN, Sadiq Ahmed, who stated this at a press conference on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ secretariat, also berated the Ekiti and Oyo State governors for the quit notices they issued to herders in their states.

He said, “The statements made by these leaders are a clear proof that the unity of Nigeria is at stake and can only be solved when the governors of Benue, Ekiti and Oyo states are sanctioned without further delay, especially the governor of Benue State.

“We will continue to educate our members to be law-abiding citizens, but we will lawfully reject any attempt by a group of tribes, who are minority in Nigeria, trying to control and instigate violence in a united country.”

He faulted Ortom for calling the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, a terrorist and described his statement as one made by someone who got into power by chance.

“It was governor Ortom, who publicly announced that nomads should move down to Bauchi and carry out their criminality, which implies that all Fulani nomads or herdsmen are criminals.”

Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Danlami Kawule, faulted Ortom’s statement that Mohammed was a terrorist.

He called on Ortom to apologise to the people of the state for making such a derogatory statement about their governor.

He stated this in an interview with journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Similarly, the Arewa Youths for Peace and Development has lambasted Ortom for calling Mohammed a terrorist.

The Chairman of the group, Salihu Mohammed, who stated this on Tuesday in Bauchi while addressing a press conference, said Mohammed was a true nationalist, who always defended the interest of the masses and the oppressed, adding that to call him a terrorist was unacceptable, erroneous and unfair.

Salihu stated, “We are demanding an unreserved apology to Nigerians by governor Ortom for fanning the embers of disunity in the country with his reckless statements and actions. Governor Ortom’s unguarded utterances are a cover-up for his allegedly dastardly act of sponsoring thugs, who maim and kill many Fulani herdsmen in Benue with the aim of fuelling hatred and envy.”
