Only restructuring can save Nigeria from existential threats – Group

A group, the Restructure Actualisation Movement, has said the nation is facing real and existential threats which only restructuring of the federation can address.

It noted that the rising insecurity in form of banditry, kidnappings and killings across the country showed that the nation was in a critical state and on the brink of “a catastrophic explosion.’’

The National Chairman of the Restructure Actualization Movement, Maj. Gen. Henry Ayoola (retd.), who stated this at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, admonished the political leadership to restructure the polity before it is too late.

According to him, the restructuring should involve holistic overhauling of the constituting instruments, policies, strategies, structures, systems, processes and procedures, particularly, ‘’the omnibus exclusive legislative list that has largely under-delivered critical social services and benefits of democracy to the people.”

Ayoola stated, ‘’Nigeria is in a critical state facing real, present and existential threats to her peace, union and progress. Everywhere across the country, there are signs of degeneration, collapse and loss of confidence.

“The people appear to be mesmerized and overwhelmed resorting to just carrying on with abject despondency as if everything is fine. We must wake up to the reality that we are at a crossroads where perpetual optimism seems not to be a force multiplier any longer.’’

The retired general explained that the vision of his group was to facilitate the emergence of a new Nigeria driven by knowledge, technology, offering equal opportunities for all the citizens to optimally realise their potential.

Ayoola argued that the restructuring of the country must include restructured leadership which must stand on the pillars of character, calling, competence and consequence.

To fast-track the desired plan, the group said it was hosting the national restructuring actualisation summit in Abuja on Thursday, adding that Nigerians can also join online by registering on www.ram.com.ng.
