PDP condemns suspension of opposition Kwara Assembly lawmaker

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democractic Party has condemned the suspension of Honorable Raheem Agboola by the state House of Assembly, describing the move as unlawful and an affront to parliamentary ethics.

Agboola, who was the only PDP member in the 24-member APC-dominated legislature, was suspended on Tuesday by the Assembly over alleged contempt of the legislature and abuse of privileges contained in the comments he made during a radio programme about the deplorable state of road infrastructure in his constituency, Ilorin South.

PDP in a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ashaolu, on Wednesday described Agboola’s suspension as a “kangaroo pronouncement that cannot be accepted anywhere in the world where democracy thrives.”

He said, “The Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Danladi, has subjected the institution of Kwara State House of Assembly to an appendage of Governor Abdulraham Abdulrazaq’s office, lacks the power to suspend fellow house member who rise to protect the interest of his constituency by lending his voice to the deplorable level of infrastructure in the state.”

Agboola in his reaction said, “The constitution does not prevent people from staging peaceful protest if they felt they are cheated. The roads in Ilorin South, which is my constituency are bad and people are crying out and you said I as their Representative should not talk, what kind of administration is that?
