PDP leaders chide Lalong for disobeying court orders

LEADERS of the Plateau State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Monday decried what they described as the refusal of the state Governor, Simon Lalong, to obey an order of court reinstating Joshua Ubandoma, as chairman of the Langtang Local Government Area of the state

UGAMATV reported that Ubandoma had dragged the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission to court for conducting an election while he still had one year to spend as chairman of Langtang North.

Delivering the judgement last week, Justice Ishaku Kunda held that it was wrong for PLASIEC to conduct elections in Langtang North LGA when Ubandoma’s tenure still subsists.

According to the court, whoever was made chairman during the October 10 local government election never existed as chairman adding that Ubandoma remained chairman on until his tenure elapses on October 9, 2022.

Armed with this judgement, Ubandoma went to resume office but was prevented from doing so by state actors acting at the behest of the government.

The PDP leaders who spoke at a press conference in Jos, accused Lalong of encouraging impunity and disrespect for the rule of law.

State Legal Adviser of the PDP, Binchen Jantur, lamented that despite the Justice Kunda Ishaku declarative judgment reinstating the PDP chairman of the Langtang council, Joshua Ubandoma, Lalong has continued to “use his agents and cronies to obstruct the course of justice and forcefully aiding the ousted APC candidate to remain in office as chairman.”

Jantur accused Governor Lalong of willfully ignoring the court order to create a crisis of legitimacy and identity of leadership in Langtang North and precipitate confusion and possible bloodshed.

The embattled Council chairman of Lantang North local government area, Joshua Ubandoma, expressed gratitude to the state Police Commissioner, Bathlomew Onyeka, for sealing the council secretariat to avoid a clash of the two parties which may have led to a breakdown of law and order.

The PDP state chairman, Chris Hassan, said it was regrettable that, as a lawyer, the governor has embraced impunity and is conducting himself like a bull in a China Shop.

When contacted, the Plateau State Commissioner for Information, Dan Manjang referred our Correspondent to the State Attorney General, Almadu Chrysantus who is the Commissioner for Justice.

However, calls to his mobile phone were neither picked nor returned as at the time of filing this report.
