The Deputy Minority leader, House of representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu has identified with the bereaved family of the late traditional ruler of Ugbonabo autonomous community, Ugbo town Awgu local government area of Enugu state, HRH late Igwe Lawrence Udeani Chime.

Igwe Lawrence Udeani Chime was a renowned traditional authority in Enugu state. Born a second chid, to the legendary family of late Chief and Mrs. Okereke Anuwike, on Friday, 5th October 1934. Chime’s early years were described as blissful as he was born with a flair for wit, peace and humility, traits which made him easily lovable by Family, teachers and friends alike.

It was recorded that the late Igwe was a cynosure of hope and brilliance, a beacon of light to all that crossed paths with him. Upon an early graduation from standard six, due to his brillance, he took a job as a pupil-teacher in his alma mater as well as other schools.

After garnering some years of experience in teaching, he opted to go for an apprenticeship under foundry works, which upon completion gained him a mastery in metal works. Eventually, his proficiency in handling metals gained an employment as a fitter at Nigerian railway corporation in 1958. In a bid to discharge his duties with finesse and efficiency, he attended several trainings, workshops and seminars. For 20 years, he gave all his best to the establishment, after which, in 1978, he retired from the corporation. As a man who abhors idleness, he joined Turners Asbestos company, Emene Enugu, as a workshop supervisor.

The late Igwe had in between his years of work, gotten married to a damsel of quintessence from the Kama family of Ishiakpu village, Late Lolo Felicia Uzunma Chime (nee Kama), the lady of undiluted elegancde had bore him six children. The children in their order of seniority are, IFEYINWA, OBINNA, BLESSING, GRACE, ANENE AND OGECHUKWU. A core family man, he ensured the right and Godly upbringing of his family such that they are icons of excellence in Character and human worth.

Prior to becoming the sovereign king of Ugbonabo autonomous community, late Chime held several public, political and civil positions, all of which he meticulously and responsibly discharged in full.

Harnessing all his qualities, Worthy of a king, it was natural for him to have won the kingship election conducted upon the creation of Ugbonabo autonomous community as the first traditional ruler and NABO 1 OF UGBONABO.

In all his kingly essence and aura, Igwe Chime ruled with fairness, selflessness, compassion and meekness. His rule witnessed peace, growth and tremendous development in Ugbonabo.

He however took a bow at the ripe age of 86 on 5th october, 2020 after a short period of illness.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren, sons and daughters in-law, sisters and several relatives.

He was however laid to rest on the 27th of March, 2021.

The lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu, also a son of the soil of Ugbonabo who is extensively acquainted to the deceased Monarch, though immersed in grief of demise, outlined most of the regal qualities of the king.

“It is gratifying that the Igwe led a selfless life, bequeathed with credible legacies and worthy offsprings to keep his name alive. It is my prayer that God almighty grants us comfort in this bereavement and the fortitude to bear the loss. On behalf of my Family and the constituency, accept my deepest condolences.”, Okechukwu wrote to the bereaved family.
