YULETIDE: ENUGU REP DEPUTY MINORITY, OKECHUKWU AND WIFE CONTINUE TRADITION, DISTRIBUTES BAGS OF RICE, CASH GIFTS TO WIDOWS, PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED

It was indeed a day of excitement as tears of joy flowed and people had nothing but good prayers for Hon. Toby Okechukwu, the Deputy Minority leader House of Representatives and his wife, Mrs Uche Okechukwu as they showered gifts on the people of Aninri, Awgu and Oji-River on the 24th of December.

The end of the year party which was held for the widows and physically challenged Hon. Okechukwu’s constituency at Awgu Civic centre, Ugbonabo saw the attendance of widows and physically challenged from the three local governments.

Hon. Okechuwku who is the member representing Aninri, Awgu and Oji-River federal constituency is known for his numerous philanthropic works in the state having paid WAEC fees for over 600 hundred students, sponsored trainings on hospitality management and aqua culture, sponsored learning tours for students and organized free medical outreach for over 6000 patients each year.

UGAMATV recalls that this is not the first time the Honorable is gifting widows bags of rice, materials and cash gift during the yuletide celebration as he has made it a tradition every year and this year was no different.

Speaking at the event, Uche Okechukwu thanked present for honoring their invitation stating that the end of the year is a period where they give thanks to God and remember the birth of Jesus.

“We decided to come again like we do before by bringing your Christmas gifts. Remembrance is what is greater, and that is why we always remember widows, those that are sick and the physically challenged all this time, so that we can arrange the society for everyone to be happy.

“We understand the plight of widows in the society, and we always pray that things like that don’t happen again. I console everyone passing through this and ask you to take heart. I thank my husband who made this opportunity possible and asked me to give you people these things”, she said.

Hon. Okechukwu reminding them the reason for the season and reasons why they were selected for the gifts said “In all situations we must continue to appreciate God. It’s a hard thing that most of you had to lose your husbands, but it made you available to Jesus, and our wish is that it will not happen again.

“Anywhere we are we always remember our people that are challenged and that is why we always come to their aid once in a while by doing these things for Christmas, and I always thank my wife for supporting it and for also making this possible too”, he said.

Giving the vote of thanks to thank the Honorable for his good work, Eze Maduabuchi from Oji- River, a physically challenged man said “On behalf of the physically challenged I thank Toby Okechukwu and his wife. Am very happy and impressed for what they have done for us today.

Recalling that this is not the first time such a thing is happening he said, “This is not the first time you are doing this. You don’t play with widows and physically challenged. One thing I can assure you of is that for all you do for us you shall never lack anything. I also thank those people who you are working with, because they do what you ask them to do”, he said concluding.

 One of the widows who was also a beneficiary of the program, Anike Felicia revealed she was also a beneficiary of his medical outreach three years ago, saying “Toby okechukwu is a good man, he is the reason I can see with my eyes  because of his free medical outreach three years ago.

“I couldn’t see with my eyes then and they told me I had cataract so one day they said that toby said those with eye problem should come so that he can help them and I went to Nenwe and since the treatment that day, I can see” she concluded with joy.

The widows and physically were gifted with bags of rice, Ankara materials and cash gifts for the Christmas celebration.
